On April 26, 2025, Tate’s School in Knoxville celebrated the unveiling of a new classroom during its 16th annual Open House. This structure replaces a building destroyed by an EF-2 tornado in August 2023—the first of its kind in Knox County in 70 years. Though no students were present during the storm, faculty witnessed significant damage to trees, roofs, and buildings. Thanks to community support, the school reopened on schedule that year, but rebuilding near the preschool area took longer.
The tornado also impacted Tate’s Day Camp, damaging many trees. Fortunately, the camp was closed at the time, preventing injuries. Since then, efforts have been made to replant and preserve the natural environment. The 54-acre campus continues to offer amenities like saltwater pools, ziplines, an archery range, climbing walls, and distinctive rustic classrooms.
