Tate’s Alumni and Bearden High School student, Bella Patterson recently worked with friends to design a new mural at the Christenberry Community Center. Bella and her friends designed the artwork over the summer and the team worked with the City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department and Public Arts Committee to make their vision a reality.

We had a few questions for Bella and we hope you enjoy her answers!

Q: What was your motivation for creating and painting this mural?

A: “Me and my friend Amanda really wanted to get our school’s National Art Honors Society club involved in a community service project. She has worked at Christenberry for a few summers, and knew that it had a wall that needed an update. We felt that creating a mural would really help to not only engage our club members but also to engage the children that would see this mural!”

Q: How large is the mural and how long did it take to paint?

A: “The mural is about 40 feet wide and 8 feet tall, so it’s huge! It took me about 7 days, working 8 hours a day, to get it done.”

Q: What would you like your fellow Tate’s alumni and family to know about this project?

A: “I would like my Tate’s family to know that art is a beautiful because you make it beautiful, inspiration can come from the smallest things, and the smallest things can make people’s days a little brighter!”

Great job, Bella!

Tate’s Alumni and Bearden High School student, Bella Patterson recently worked with friends to design a new mural at the Christenberry Community Center.
