Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade are foundational for character development, social and emotional intelligence, and related interpersonal life skills that are as important to future success as academic development. In a time when parental influence often diminishes and societal and peer influences flourish, young men and women want to fit in, have close friendships, and know that their ideas and opinions are valued. - Advanced Academics and Pre-AP courses<\/strong> are our standard curriculum, and incoming students are tested to ensure they can handle the pace of learning. We provide a rigorous academic curriculum based on standards for college preparatory level work. Our STEAM (S<\/strong>cience, T<\/strong>echnology, E<\/strong>ngineering, A<\/strong>rts and M<\/strong>athematics) curriculum is interwoven into lessons across all content areas.<\/li>\n
- Social & Emotional Health<\/strong> is a priority. Most of life\u2019s difficult problems are social in nature. As such, we emphasize building grit and lay a strong foundation on how to approach problem solving \u2013 both academically and interpersonally. We encourage students to face difficulty head-on, think for themselves about possible solutions, and involve others when appropriate. Tate\u2019s students develop a \u201cGrowth Mindset\u201d where challenges are welcomed, mistakes are viewed as opportunities, and perseverance is the norm.<\/li>\n

Whether practicing for the Shakespearean play on the treehouse porch, or snow-shoeing through the NC mountains, we encourage our students to operate outside their comfort zone and embrace nature. Slicing through melons with medieval weapons is not only fun, it also exemplifies the combination of passionate, hands-on learning that happens throughout our 54-acre campus.<\/li>\n
- Positive Mentor\/Mentee Relationships<\/strong> are vitally important. Our teachers and faculty<\/a> form meaningful relationships with every student. Instructors recognize when a student is struggling and gladly offer assistance. Our students are comfortable approaching our teachers and administrators to ask for help or advice.
