Mrs. Pace's and Mrs. Ferguson's fifth grades have two exciting events planned for the first week in February. World War II is our current topic of study in in Social Studies. Because of this course of study, our first event will be a trip to the American Science and Energy museum to learn about the history of Oak Ridge and it's importance to World War II. Dr. Tony Buhl, grandfather of one of our students, will also present the movie "The Secret City" in the Oak Ridge movie theater.
Next, we will have a visitor from the Univeristy of Tennessee. Dr. John Toman, World World II re-enactor, will visit campus to provide the students a first person point-of-view of both a paratrooper's and a physician's experiences during the War. Dr. Toman will also bring military equipment and artifacts from the time period. Students will be equipped as paratroopers to give a real impression of what it may have felt like to "be there".
